Understanding Workflows: the Canvas and Node System

This guide is not scenario-oriented. It systematically explains YouArt's functional architecture, core interaction logic, and how each capability should be correctly used.

It is made for:

  • First-time YouArt users
  • Creators who want to truly understand agent-based workflows
  • Users who want to use YouArt as a long-term production tool

Note: we recommend using the Google Chrome browser for the best experience.

What the canvas is

The canvas is the space that holds all your creative actions. It's an infinitely expandable creative map, and it is where everything in this chapter happens.

In YouArt, creation on the workflow canvas isn't about one-time generation. It's about:

  • Experimenting
  • Modifying
  • Branching
  • Comparing
  • Extending
  • Combining

Creation is a process, not a one-time result. It's not about getting it right in one go, but moving forward step by step.

What nodes are

In YouArt, every action you take creates a node.

Each action on the canvas becomes a node of its own.
What you doWhat it creates
Generate an imageOne node
Generate a videoOne node
Modify a promptA new node
Adjust parametersA new node

A node records:

  • Your input - prompt, parameters and reference images
  • The model used
  • The current generation result

Nodes come in specific types, grouped by what they do. The "Add a node" menu lists Upload, Image models, Video models, Audio models, Image tools, Video tools and Utilities.

The "Add a node" menu on the canvas, with the Agent chat panel on the right.

What the connections mean

The lines between nodes are not decorative. They represent logical inheritance relationships.

They show:

  • Where this result evolved from
  • Which image this video is based on
  • Which step was adjusted

This means:

  • You can trace back at any time
  • You can compare different directions
  • You can restart from any historical node

Non-linear creation

In YouArt, you don't need to only move forward. You can:

  • Branch out from any node
  • Try multiple directions simultaneously
  • Keep all experimental results
Branching: an output handle connected into the next node's input handles.

For example:

  • Try 3 different styles for the same image
  • Try different outfits for the same character
  • Try different atmospheres for the same shot

The original results will not be overwritten.

Once the canvas and the node model are clear, the next part covers the Agent - one of YouArt's core capabilities, and the part that turns natural language into specific nodes and workflows.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the canvas in YouArt?

The canvas is the space that holds all your creative actions - an infinitely expandable creative map. Instead of treating creation as a one-time generation, it lets you experiment, modify, branch, compare, extend and combine, so creation becomes a process you move through step by step rather than something you have to get right in one go.

What does a node record?

Every action you take creates a node. A node records your input (prompt, parameters and reference images), the model used, and the current generation result. Generating an image or a video creates a node, and modifying a prompt or adjusting parameters creates a new one.

What do the lines between nodes mean?

The lines are not decorative. They represent logical inheritance relationships: where a result evolved from, which image a video is based on, and which step was adjusted. Because that history is recorded, you can trace back at any time, compare different directions, and restart from any historical node.

Does branching overwrite my earlier results?

No. You can branch out from any node, try multiple directions simultaneously and keep all experimental results - for example three different styles for the same image, or different outfits for the same character. The original results will not be overwritten.
