Part 2 of 3
Connect Cards and Use the Agent
Connecting cards is what makes Canvas more than a generator: every result can become the starting point for the next one. This chapter shows how to connect cards, and how to hand the work to the Agent.
Connect cards
Drag from a card's output socket (right side) onto another card to use the first card's result as a reference for the second.
The source image is filled into the target's reference slot automatically, and the card shows a small → 1 badge counting its connected inputs.
Two shortcuts make this faster:
- Drop on empty space to create the next card. Drag from the output socket and pause on an empty spot. A ring appears: move toward Image (top), Video (right), Script (bottom) or Audio (left) and let go. The new card is created already connected.
- Type @ in the prompt to say which reference you mean, for example “@Image1 the same sneaker worn by a skater…”.
A script card can be connected in the same way; its text is added to the prompt. Press V to see every connection on the board.
Let the Agent do it
The Agent sees the whole board — cards, groups, scripts, comments and the About This Canvas note — and can edit it directly: write scripts, create and connect cards, rewrite prompts, organize groups and run generations.
| # | Control | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Attach files | Up to 8 files per message, or drag files onto the chat. |
| 2 | Permissions | Auto (default) can edit and create cards. Brainstorm answers and suggests, and changes nothing on the canvas. |
| 3 | Model & effort | GPT-6.1 Sol or GPT-6 Astra; slide from Faster to Smarter. |
| 4 | Chat layout | Full screen, pin to the left or right, move to the bottom, or minimize. |
| 5 | Voice | Speak instead of typing. |
Example
We asked: “Write a 3-shot script for a 10-second social ad for this sneaker as a script card. Then add a 9:16 image card for shot 1 to the 'Launch visuals' group, connect the studio product shot as its reference, and generate it.”
The Agent shows its progress, and you can stop it at any time. Before it spends credits on a generation, it asks you to confirm:
After you confirm, it reports exactly what it changed:
…and the board now has the script card plus a new 9:16 card, connected to the product shot and already generated:
Tips
- Say what a message is about. Select cards before you type, or drag a card onto the input, and the message is about those cards.
- Talk instead of typing. Hold T over the board and speak; click cards while holding to include them. When you let go, your words and cards are waiting in the message for you to send.
- Start a new chat with ⌘+⇧+O while you are typing in the chat.
- Generations the Agent runs use credits, just like the ones you start yourself.
