- What does the steampunk style generator create?
- One new 1K square steampunk image from a written scene, an uploaded photo, or both: brass and copper machinery, meshed clockwork, riveted iron, oiled leather and glass goggles, lit as gaslight and furnace light with steam in the beam. The palette holds to brass, copper, oxblood and aged ivory against dark iron unless you name others.
- How is this different from a sepia or vintage filter?
- A sepia filter changes the colour of your photograph and nothing else — same clothes, same room, brown. This rebuilds the scene: the wardrobe becomes leather and brass fittings, the setting gains real machinery, and the light is relit as gaslight. The generator is instructed that sepia toning, faded paper, vignettes and film grain are not this style and must not stand in for it, because a brown wash is exactly what the cheap version of this looks like.
- Can I use my own photo?
- Yes, and a written scene works on its own too — a reference photo is not required. With a photo attached, your face shape, age and build are kept as they are while the clothing, materials, light and setting are rebuilt around you. There is one reference slot per run, so a group scene is not something this page does well.
- Can I get the look of a specific steampunk film or game?
- No, and that is deliberate. The generator is instructed not to reproduce a named game, film or novel's steampunk world, characters, airship or trade dress. Describe the machinery and materials you want instead — brass versus blackened iron, gears exposed or housed, a boiler room versus an airship deck — which gets you the look without copying someone's design.
- How much does it cost?
- Each run costs 8 credits and returns one 1K square image. New accounts get credits to start with, so you can try it before paying for anything.
